History and castles
Where Scotland’s story was decided
Royal castles, ruined abbeys and the fields where battles changed the country. I tell the stories where they happened, so a pile of old stones becomes somewhere you can picture. A good first day if you’re new to Scotland.
For exampleStirling Castle, Bannockburn, Linlithgow Palace, Dunfermline Abbey, Doune Castle

Outlander filming locations
Step into the world of the series
A route through the places you know from the screen, from Castle Leoch to Cranesmuir. Along the way I’ll fill in the real eighteenth-century history behind the story, and the bits the series left out.
For exampleDoune Castle, Culross, Falkland, Blackness Castle, Midhope Castle

Highlands and nature
Mountains, glens and waterfalls
The big landscapes, at a pace that lets you get out of the car and into them. We’ll stop at waterfalls and high passes, and at the quiet places most people drive past without knowing they’re there.
For exampleGlencoe, the Trossachs, Falls of Dochart, Rannoch Moor, Loch Lomond
Plan a Highlands day
Lochs, boats and seaplanes
A day by the water, and on it
A scenic drive paired with time on the water. That could be a cruise on Loch Lomond, the old steamship on Loch Katrine, or a seaplane flight if you’re feeling adventurous. I’ll arrange the timings so nothing feels rushed.
For exampleLoch Katrine, Loch Lomond, Loch Tay, Loch Ness
Plan a day on the water
Wildlife and birdwatching
A peaceful day out with the wildlife
Ospreys, red kites, red deer and seals, depending on the time of year. This is a slower day, spent at the reserves and hides where you have the best chance of a sighting.
For exampleLoch of the Lowes, Argaty Red Kites, Loch Leven, the Isle of May

Heritage towns and villages
Old streets, harbours and market squares
Some of Scotland’s best history is in its small towns. Cobbled closes, harbours full of fishing boats, and merchants’ houses and market crosses that have stood for centuries. We’ll wander at an easy pace, with time for a coffee or lunch somewhere local.
For exampleCrail, Culross, Falkland, Dunkeld, Anstruther
